The Grand Forks Public Schools Elementary Library Media program uses the following standards, benchmarks and critical knowledge in the teaching of information literacy.

Standard 1-Students access information effectively
Benchmark 1.4.1-Students recognize library organization.
Benchmark 1.4.2-Students demonstrate reference tools.

Critical Knowledge for each grade level

Standard 2-Students evaluate information critically.
Benchmark 2.4.1-Students evaluate information for usefulness.
Benchmark 2.4.2-Students distinguish between fact and fiction.
Benchmark 2.4.3-Students gather, record and organize data.
Critical Knowledge for each grade level

Standard 3-Students appreciate literature and other creative expressions of information.
Benchmark 3.4.1-Students use literature with competence and self-motivation.
Benchmark 3.4.2-Students recognize various genres of literature.
Benchmark 3.4.3-Students use listening and observation skills.

Standard 4-Students practice ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology.
Benchmark 4.4.1-Students recognize intellectual property rights.
