• The Early Childhood Special Education program provides services to 3-5 year old children with unique educational needs.  Children receiving services through the program have been identified as meeting criteria in one or more areas of disability. 

    The program offers a full continuum of services that include a site based program with children attending sessions and receiving related services as determined by the IEP team. Consultative services to kindergarten teachers, parents, day cares, nursery schools and homebound students as well as single service speech/language services are also provided.   The classrooms are located in four elementary schools with reverse mainstreaming being provided with like number of peers.  The program also includes special education teachers at a Head Start site that provides services to special needs students at that least restrictive site when determined appropriate by the IEP team. 

    The Early Childhood Special Education program utilizes a team approach.  This educational team consists of a teacher certified in preschool special needs, paraeducators, parents, speech/language therapist, physical and occupational therapists, audiologist, vision specialist, social worker, psychologist and an assistive technology specialist, representatives from community agencies (when appropriate) and other specialists, as needed.
