Early Childhood Selective Screen

  • What is the early childhood selective screen?

    • The early childhood selective screen is conducted by qualified professionals to help identify specific needs a child might have. The screen includes the areas of general development, social-emotional skills, basic concepts, speech, language, hearing, and vision. Information related to the child’s developmental history, health, and immunization records is also reviewed as part of the process.

Who can participate in the screen?

    • The screen is for children between the ages of 3-5 who have not yet entered kindergarten. The child must have reached their 3rd birthday to participate in the screen for that month.

    • Screening is completed based on referrals due to concerns about a child’s development.

What if my child doesn’t pass the screen?

    • The screening team will complete an exit interview after the screening is complete to review the results.

    • The team will schedule a student profile meeting if further evaluation is recommended.

Where and when does the screen take place?

    • The early childhood selective screen takes place once per month (September-April) at Ben Franklin Elementary School, 1016 S 20th St.
