Marto, Jake 2005 Graduate - Athlete
Considered to be one of the best overall athletes ever to wear a Central uniform, Jake continues his athletic success as a professional hockey player with the Colorado Eagles. However, in his time at Central, hockey was just one of his sports. In fact, if asked about his favorite sport, his answer would have been, “Whatever sport I’m playing at the time.”
An All-State player in football, hockey, and baseball, he was also honored as North Dakota’s Mr. Hockey and Mr. Baseball as a senior. He played in multiple state championship games in football, hockey and baseball, including three on the ice. He points out that he and his teammates learned the “right way” at GFC, from older teammates, coaches, and teachers. He still bleeds maroon and grey from the pride and sense of history embodied at Central.
An older brother, Dan, set the stage as a GFC athlete, and parents Perry and Priscilla strongly supported him not only at Central, but as a standout hockey player at the University of North Dakota. Jake resides in Windsor, Colorado and is married to GFC alum, Krissy (Hatt). Despite a professional career that has seen him travel the world, Jake has many lifelong friends who still live in Grand Forks, and his heart remains in his hometown.
