    Families:

    October is Depression Awareness Month, and the best way for us to help someone through a mental health issue is by educating ourselves.

    With that in mind, there are five resources we would like you to be aware of:

    1. Altru/TEARS (Together we Educate About the Realities of Suicide) have an online mental health screening tool that parents/guardians can complete on behalf of children under the age of 18 at http://screening.mentalhealthscreening.org/altru-tears. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if someone may need to connect with a mental health professional. Please bookmark this page.
    2. Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) classes are being offered in November for any adult who parents, educates, and/or mentors youth. This FREE 8-hour class is to mental health what CPR is to physical health – learning to recognize the symptoms and how to be connectors to help. For more information, please click here.     3. Early intervention is the key to saving lives. Visit stopasuicide.org and review the information under the following tabs: Learn to Act and Get Help.
    4. All middle and high schools are now using Sources of Strength, a youth suicide prevention program designed to help students build strength before facing adversity. For more information, please visit https://sourcesofstrength.org/.
    5. Please visit the GFPS Mental Health Hub (https://www.gfschools.org/mentalhealthhub) and add the hotline numbers listed into your phone so you are ready to help someone in need.
