Todd Schaefer (1977-1980) participated in Hockey (2 letters) and Golf (3 letters) for the Riders. On the ice, Schaefer was a standout on East Region Championship teams in 1979 and 1980. He was named All City, All EDC, and All State in 1980. In golf, Schaefer was a member of three conference championship teams in 1978, 1979, and 1980. During his senior season in 1980, he was named All EDC and Team MVP. Also in 1980, he was named a National High School All American for excelling in 2 sports. After high school, he was a star on UND’s golf team, becoming the NCC Individual Champion in 1984 and earning All American honors in 1982 & 1984. His teams at UND finished as NCC champions in 1981, 1982, and 1983, in addition to qualifying for the Division II National Tournament during his senior season. Throughout an illustrious post-collegiate amatuer career, Schaefer won thirteen North Dakota Amatuer State titles and appeared at the USGA National National Amatuer in 1987, USGA Mid Amatuer in 1989, USGA State Team in 2000 and 2003. He was inducted into the UND Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2000 and the North Dakota Golf Hall of Fame in 2003.
