Funds that support student and educator secondary scholarships and scholarships for students in need. To donate to any of these scholarships, visit gfschools.org/giving, select "other" from the drop-down menu, and enter the scholarship name.

Athletic Scholarships

Brian Barclay Memorial Scholarship for one or more students graduating from Central HS. The recipient should be involved with the GFC Football program and should have demonstrated good citizenship. 

Berg Scholar-Athlete Award for a Central HS student-athlete who will be attending college to continue their football career.

Ed and Bea Bohnhoff Scholarship for a football player graduating from Central HS. The recipient should be an above-average student who displays character, courage, and work ethic on and off the field.

John E. Conneran Scholarship for a Red River or Central HS graduating senior pursuing a post-secondary degree based on academic achievement, participation in baseball, and additional extra-curricular activities.

Joe H. Ford Scholarship for a graduating male or female student-athlete at Central and Red River HS who demonstrates dedication to the school’s basketball team.

Anne Fritzell Scholarship for a Central HS female athlete; based on citizenship, character, leadership, acceptable scholarship, and athletic excellence.

Sergio “Serge” Gambucci Scholarship for Excellence for the outstanding student-athlete graduating from Central and Red River HS. 

Sean Gerszewski Memorial Scholarship for a graduating senior boys hockey player from Central and Red River who has a team-first mentality, someone that brought teammates together, remained positive when the chips were down, and demonstrated perseverance in the face of adversity.

Scott Heyd Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship to be awarded to a student who participates in the GFC Wrestling program.

Mark Hoverson Memorial Scholarship for a Central HS student-athlete from Manvel, ND.

Glenn “Red” & Margaret Jarrett Memorial Scholarship for a graduating Central HS boy or a girl student-athlete who demonstrates leadership qualities and is of high character.

Russell LaDouceur Memorial Scholarship for a Red River HS student-athlete who participated in certain sports and a good student who has shown good citizenship.

Arnold Lindsay Scholarship for hockey players graduating from Red River HS with good citizenship.

Perry Nakonechny Award is given to a senior Red River HS boys’ hockey player who has a team-first attitude, respect for others, works hard in practice, perseverance to work through challenging situations, and courage when facing adversity.

Mark Paulson Memorial Scholarship for a graduating senior hockey player (Knights, Stallions, or KnighRiders) from Central who displays good character and leadership and who may be pursuing a career in the medical field.

Tim Sattler Memorial Scholarship for a Red River HS senior football player who has demonstrated dedication to the football team through hard work, training in the off-season, and a team-first attitude.

Larry & Joan Simmers Family Scholarship for one female and one male student-athlete at both Central and Red River with a GPA of 3.25 or higher who are pursuing post-secondary education.

Education Scholarships

Catherine Gallagher Memorial Scholarship for a Central HS senior who is planning on attending the University of North Dakota and intends to study early childhood education.

Greater GF Retired Teachers Assoc Scholarship for Excellence & Character is given to a graduating student of Red River, Central, or Community, who should be pursuing post-secondary education and planning a career in K-12 education. The scholarship recipient should be successful in academics, shows leadership qualities, has personal goals for the future, is of high character, and has financial needs.

Gordon “Red” Opstad Scholarship for a graduating Central HS student who is pursuing a degree in education. The student should also have attended either South or Valley MS.

General Scholarships

Alerus Good Citizen Scholarship for both Central and Red River HS graduates who’ve demonstrated citizenship, a work ethic, and their best effort academically.

Markus Bryant Spirit Scholarship for a graduating Central HS student is honored as a Spirit Award recipient.

Duane Bry Memorial Scholarship -  for a graduating Grand Forks Central High School student from Manvel who may be pursuing vocational training through a community or technical college but could also be attending a four-year university. The recipient should have a strong work ethic and high moral character.

Deeks Pizza Scholarship is given to a graduating Community, Central, and Red River HS student who is pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship recipient should be a student who is determined, may have overcome hardships, and found success during high school.

Kathleen Dunn Scholarship for Red River HS graduating senior based on academic achievement, enthusiasm for learning, and dedication to humanity.

Tom Edwards Award for Excellence in Social Studies for outstanding students in social studies graduating from Central and Red River HS.

McCain Endres Memorial Award An annual award is given to five graduating seniors of Central HS who have shown good character and who have had an impact on their school and classmates.

Dona Erickson Scholarship for outstanding art students graduating from Red River HS.

Robert Fullmer Scholarship for male students graduating from Central HS with a 2.0-3.0 GPA.

GFC High School Vision Scholarship for a Central HS graduate who has overcome many obstacles yet has persevered during their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Celeste Hackenberg Scholarship for female students graduating from Central HS  who was involved in numerous activities, with an above average GPA, and strong moral character.

Terry Hager Memorial Scholarship for a student graduating from Central, Community, or Red River High Schools who attended either Winship or Phoenix Elementary Schools.

Cody Holte Memorial Scholarship in memory of Grand Forks Police Officer Cody Holte, for a graduating senior from Central, Red River, and Community high school who is a hard-working student who is pursuing criminal justice, law enforcement, or ROTC.

June E. Johnson Scholarship for a graduating Central HS girl interested in school or community government or the political process. 

Max Laird Memorial Scholarship for students who have shown growth during their time at Community HS.

Ashley Leabo Scholarship for a graduating Community HS student pursuing a post-secondary education not limited to a four-year program.

Lunn Family Scholarship for students shall be pursuing post-secondary education in either the medical field or graphic design. Additionally, they should be good students who have also shown good citizenship.

John and Jean O’Keefe Scholarship for students graduating from Central and Red River. The criteria are scholastic achievement, leadership, involvement, and industriousness.

Ray Pelton Secondary Scholarship for students graduating from Community HS who demonstrate responsibility for work, attendance, and behavior.

PEO Chapter AO Memorial Scholarship for a Red River and GFC female student who has demonstrated personal growth over her high school career. 

Promise Scholarship for a Community HS graduate who is pursuing post-secondary education and whose cumulative GPA has risen during their time at Community.

Red River Marketing Scholarship for a graduating Red River HS student who is an active DECA member with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and has completed two years in the RRHS Marketing Program.

Don Schlaefer Scholarship for students graduating from Central HS. The criteria are good citizenship and involvement in school and community.

Elroy and Donalda Schroeder Scholarship for students graduating from Central HS based on citizenship, character, and leadership.

Geoffrey L. Swanson Memorial Scholarship - for a Red River High School graduating senior who has demonstrated academic achievement, an enthusiasm for learning, with a dedication to humanity and social justice as a high school student. The successful candidate will pursue post-secondary education in political science, foreign languages, and/or liberal arts and has an interest in participating in intercultural exchange and studying abroad.

Kathryn E. Uhrich and Jeffrey D. Holmes 1983 Excellence Scholarship to a Central HS senior who excels in academics but also shows exemplary leadership skills in extracurricular activities and/or community service.

UPS Safe Driver Scholarship for a graduating senior from Central, Red River, or Community high school who is planning to attend either University of North Dakota, Northland Technical & Community College, Mayville State, or another local trade school. The scholarship recipient must have a clean driving record and be an average student.

Language and English Scholarships

Devon Daly Foreign Language Scholarship for a Central HS graduate who is interested in traveling abroad for language purposes.

Bailey Henke Memorial Scholarship for a Community HS graduate who was successful in English was a comfortable fit in Community and made a smooth transition to HS.

Mykel MacCarthy Scholarship for a Central or Red River HS Student who is pursuing a post-secondary education with an emphasis on journalism.

Frau Merritt Scholarship for a Red River HS senior who has completed at least three years of a foreign language and is pursuing post-secondary education.

Music Scholarships

John Beach Scholarship for a Central HS student who is either a participant or a supporter of both music and athletics.

Ali Borgen Smile Wide Scholarship for a GFPS student participating in Grand Cities Children’s Choir and/ or the SPA program or involved in private music lessons.

Pauline Eichenbeger Memorial Scholarship - for a Central HS student pursuing music education, or if there isn't someone who fits those criteria, someone who might be interested in law enforcement or forensic science. Additionally, the recipient should be a generous spirit that shows kindness towards others and acceptance of others.

Dona Wavrin Erickson Art Scholarship - for a Red River HS senior art student who is at least a C average and who is intending to advance his education in art. A most deserving student.

Denny Everson Music Scholarship for a graduating senior from Red River HS who was actively involved in the music department.

Bill Pond Music Scholarship for a graduating Central HS senior involved in instrumental music.

Sherwood Scholarship to enhance Central and Red River students’ school music experiences. Criteria are service to school and/or community vocal music; and interest and talent in vocal music.

Mark Solberg Music Scholarship for a graduating Central HS graduate attending the University of North Dakota who will continue his or her involvement in music.

Zimney Foster PC Band Scholarship is given to a graduating Central HS band student who is pursuing post-secondary education.

Need-Based Scholarships

Access for All Scholarship helps Grand Forks Public School students in grades K-12 and their families to receive counseling services.

AE2S Good Samaritan Fund provides scholarships for needy K-12 students to help with emergency or enrichment needs that are not being met or supported by other means.

Vincent Berg Scholarship for needy students district-wide in grades nine through twelve to help enhance their high school experiences.

Burian Family Scholarship to help students’ critical needs across all grade levels of Grand Forks Public Schools.

Classes that Care Scholarship to cover breakfast, lunch, and/or milk for students in need.

Grand Forks Marathon Scholarship to help support all Grand Forks Public Schools' middle and high school-sponsored athletic teams. 

GFPS Students Experiencing Homelessness Scholarship to help students and their families who are experiencing homelessness.

Internet Assistance Scholarship to help cover the cost of home internet for students in need at the Grand Forks Public Schools.

Julian Norby Hands Up For Kids Scholarship to help needy K-8 students fully participate in school-related opportunities.

Remove the Barrier Scholarship helps pay for Dietrich and CAT bus tickets/passes for students in need at the Grand Forks Public Schools.

Donna & Ken Rio Scholarship to help students’ critical needs across all grade levels of Grand Forks Public Schools.

Social Worker Scholarship to help students’ critical needs across all grade levels of Grand Forks Public Schools.

STEM Scholarships

American Crystal Sugar Company Scholarships for graduating Red River and Central HS seniors pursuing post-secondary education in one or more of the following fields of study: science, agriculture, engineering, mathematics, or technology.

Herman Berg Memorial Scholarship for a graduating senior from Central HS who is interested in agriculture-related studies or endeavors.

Gary Bethke Memorial Scholarship is given to a graduating Red River HS math student who is pursuing post-secondary education.

Evju and Pletan Math and Science Scholarship for a Central HS graduate who has demonstrated scholarship in advanced math and/or science and has significant financial needs.

Amelia Josefina Gray Humanitarian Scholarship for a female student graduating from Red River HS who is pursuing a post-secondary degree in the medical field at UND.

Charles Hurley Scholarship for students graduating from Central HS who have an interest in chemistry or other science-related fields.

Gordon F. Robinson Engineering Scholarship for a graduating senior from Central who is pursuing, or planning to pursue, a degree in engineering from the University of North Dakota or elsewhere.

David L. Sande Memorial Scholarship for a Central HS senior attending a post-graduate institution pursuing a degree in the medical profession, preferably dentistry.

Douglas Wolenetz Memorial Scholarship for a graduating Central or Red River HS student attending a post-graduate institution pursuing a degree in the medical field.
