Early Childhood Selective Screen
What is the early childhood selective screen?
-
The early childhood selective screen is conducted by qualified professionals to help identify specific needs a child might have. The screen includes the areas of general development, social-emotional skills, basic concepts, speech, language, hearing, and vision. Information related to the child’s developmental history, health, and immunization records is also reviewed as part of the process.
Who can participate in the screen?
-
The screen is for children between the ages of 3-5 who have not yet entered kindergarten. The child must have reached their 3rd birthday to participate in the screen for that month.
-
Screening is completed based on referrals due to concerns about a child’s development.
What if my child doesn’t pass the screen?
-
The screening team will complete an exit interview to review the results with you and discuss the next step(s).
-
If further evaluation is recommended, the team will schedule a student profile meeting as the first step in the social education evaluation process.
Where and when does the screen take place?
-
The early childhood selective screen takes place at Phoenix Elementary School, 351 4th Ave. S. The front/office door is on the south side of the building.
