While half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14, it’s important to note that ALL of us, students and adults alike, will encounter challenges with our mental health from time-to-time. In addition, we can ALL make a positive difference in the lives of those around us. In fact, the research shows that the number one protective factor in a child’s life is enduring connections to caring, supportive adults. We believe social-emotional learning helps teachers, administrators, and families create safe, positive and supportive learning environments for all students. We care about our students’ academic achievement, but more importantly, we value their mental health and overall well-being!

Telehealth Counseling Services for GFPS Students
Grand Forks Public Schools and Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota (LSSND) have entered into an agreement for LSSND to provide behavioral health services to students of GFPS through LSSND’s Abound Counseling program.
Therapy services have been available in the school setting; however, with the current school closures in place, all of the Abound Counseling mental health providers will now offer therapy services via telehealth options; allowing clients to use computers, tablets, and even mobile phones from the privacy and safety of their own homes.
Abound Counseling works to ensure that families are involved in the therapeutic process, and that all involved develop skills that support well-being. Therapists specialize in trauma treatment, family therapy, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and life adjustments.
The cost of these services can be paid by Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurances, or by the client.
