West Elementary Information

West Families,

The Grand Forks School Board discussed the future of West Elementary School at their meeting on Monday, March 8. The Board voted to close the school.

We know this news will bring a variety of emotions. Superintendent Dr. Terry Brenner shared at the meeting that Grand Forks Public Schools will plan a school closing ceremony for later this year. We will post those plans on this webpage when they become available.

We remain ready to work with our West families on the transition to a different school. In mid-March, we sent a survey to our current and incoming kindergarten families regarding school attendance options.

  • Students currently living in the West Elementary boundary lines can choose to attend Winship or Lake Agassiz elementary school.
  • For students who are attending West on an in-district transfer, we are working with their families to find an alternate school location or they could return to their neighborhood school.
  • In the cases where we have students who are attending West Elementary through open enrollment, we will work with families on an alternate school location.

If you have any questions, please contact Discovery/West Principal Ali Parkinson or Associate Superintendent of Elementary Education Jody Thompson.
