Grand Forks Public Schools Announce Three Administrative Assignments

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Grand Forks Public Schools has announced three administrative assignments for the 2021-2022 school year.

Elisa Diederich, currently the associate principal at Lake Agassiz Elementary School, has been selected as the executive director of special education.

Diederich has served as an associate principal, Title I coordinator, principal designee, and speech language pathologist in her career at Grand Forks Public Schools.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders and a master’s degree in speech language pathology both from the University of North Dakota. She is also enrolled in the educational leadership and practice doctoral program at the University of North Dakota with anticipated graduation in August 2021.

Diederich replaces Dr. Tricia Lee, who will be the next chief executive officer at Development Homes, Inc.

Dr. Anthony Vandal has been selected as the next associate principal at Lake Agassiz Elementary School.

Vandal is currently the director of education at Williston Public School District. He has served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and interim principal in his career in Williston.

He holds an associate’s degree in general studies from Turtle Mountain Community College, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Dakota, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University St. Paul, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Mary in Bismarck.

Chad Kurtyka, currently the instructional design coach at Phoenix Elementary School, has been hired as the next associate principal of Discovery Elementary School.

Kurtyka has served in several roles at Grand Forks Public Schools, including as an instructional design coach, 4th and 5th grade teacher, Title I paraprofessional, and student-teacher.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education and is anticipated to complete a master’s degree in educational leadership in May 2022.

The assignment is due to the hiring of current Associate Principal Loren Hoheisel as the next principal at Lewis and Clark Elementary School.

The administrative assignments were approved by the Grand Forks School Board on June 14.
